GHI’s  Board of Trustees is comprised of experienced professionals with diverse backgrounds, including earthquake science and engineering, international development, architecture, law, finance, and urban planning. Each has longstanding, strong ties in academic, business or government sectors. 

Ibbi Almufti

Ibbi Almufti is Principal in the Risk + Resilience practice for Arup, a global sustainable development consultancy of design, engineering and sustainability experts. He has over 18 years of experience designing, assessing, and improving building and organizational performance against multiple hazards to achieve resilience objectives. At Arup, he specializes in probabilistic natural hazard and climate change risk analysis, performance-based seismic design and analysis, and risk-based resilience advisory. He leads the development of the REDi™ Rating System, which provides owners, architects and engineers a framework for implementing “resilience-based design.” He serves on the Seismic Advisory Board for the University of California, the Building Seismic Safety Council sub-committee for Functional Recovery, and previously served on the FEMA/USGS Project 17 Committee that determined acceptable risk targets for national building codes. Mr. Almufti is a licensed Structural Engineer, a licensed Professional Engineer in Canada (B.C), and a Certified Wildlife Mitigation Specialist. He has a M.Sc.in Structural/Seismic Engineering from University of California, Berkeley and a B.S. in Structural Engineering from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He joined the GeoHazards International Board in 2025.
